I’m A Pescatarian

Alrighty, folks! So here is a ramble of a tale of why I decided to stop eating meat. Throw sausages and burgers at me all you want, just don’t expect me to swallow them. (Those with dirty minds, shame on you.)

Now, don’t get me wrong, I ain’t one of these hippies (not that there’s anything wrong with them) that cling to trees and eat grass, (eugh) For anyone who knows me well, knows I’d just about kill my own mama for a good old fashioned Sunday Roast dinner. So what changed? Well, to be honest, nothing really…

Ever since I was little I’ve had an on again off again relationship with meat, (pretty much like all my relationships, eh?) I remember excusing myself at the dinner table to spit the stored mince meat I had in my cheek like a chubby little hamster, true story, my Mama still tells me about it. I only ate bacon in a sandwich, meat with a roast and the odd beef burger, but mostly just ate chicken. So for most of my childhood, I was a white meat veggie. And everything was fine.

Flash forward this year and still only eating red meat maybe max once a week, I found myself annoyingly picking out parts of my dinner and feeding it to my dogs. If the chicken wasn’t in tiny little bits I wasn’t gonna eat it. Over the months I started realizing I was thinking things like, “I want a chicken curry, without the chicken.” and “I want a Sunday roast but with no meat just more potatoes.” You get the idea.

After a while, maybe out of pure laziness I just held my hands up and said fuck it, and haven’t eaten meat since. It may not last forever, or I may one day eventually turn full vegetarian but for now, I’m actually enjoying the new experience, trying new foods and recipes and I’ve never felt so energetic. I don’t miss anything just yet, who knows, I might even shock myself and turn vegan one day…

I lie, I’m obsessed with cheese. But watch this space…

April’s Pink Moon

Pink-Moon-700x525

Heads up werewolves, there’s a full moon coming this week and guess what? It’s a pink one. Yeah, you read that right, a moon Elle Woods herself would be happy to see shinning down in all its pink (and glamorous) glory.

But what exactly is a Pink Moon and what does it mean for us mere mortals?

Well make yourself cozy my dear friend, because things are going to get a little, eh… well, pink around here…

A full moon is a lunar phase that occurs every 29.9 days when the moon is completely visible from Earth. This next full moon will rise on April 11, 2017 and is most commonly referred to as, yeah, you guessed it: The Pink Moon. Tuesday night will be the most optimal time to see the moon but it should also be visible between Monday April 10 and onto April 12.

I’m sorry to disappoint and please try not to hate me. But, sadly this moon will not shine down a luminous baby pink glow upon us while we sleep like some kind of weird Barbie doll invasion.

Although it doesn’t look exactly pink in colour. The term ‘Pink’ comes from the moss pink herb or wild ground phlox flower that blooms in early spring, thus the Pagans named Luna herself after this April Pink Flower. Cute, right?

Sadly today we no longer follow a moon calendar, (but I think we still should because the moon is awesome) but April’s Pink Moon is still very significant in dictating many religious holidays and other dates that we celebrate.

Easter always falls on the first Sunday following the first full moon after the Spring Equinox meaning Easter will be April 16 of this year. While the April Pink Moon also dictates the beginning of the Jewish Passover and the Hindu Hanuman festival.

In famous Pagan traditions, the Pink Moon, which can also be referred to as the Wind Moon, alerts us to the changes in nature that take place at this time of year — and how you can enact similar changes in your own life to reflect your ever growing surroundings.

So for you folk out there seeking for a change, a chance to start over or a reason to try something new, this Pink Moon is for you. It symbolises nature being reborn into spring and celebrates the circle of life. (See, told you the moon is awesome.)

For any of you interested Slooh.com will be live streaming the moon online on Tuesday night.

Happy New Year

XOXO

Hey, 2017, how’s it going?

It feels like it’s been ten years since I last celebrated a new year. Obviously I know it’s been just the one, but man, did twenty sixteen drag? What a shit year? What a horrendous, disgusting year it’s been. We all agree? Good. Now let’s move on to bigger and better things.

(If you are one of the few lucky sods who have had a good 2016, jog on we can’t be friends.)

New Year means a new start right. Well here goes nothing…

So it’s nice to meet you 2017, let’s see what you’ve got planned for me, eh?
